50 physical items. E-borrowing has separate borrowing limits/terms.

You can checkout and download materials from your computer or your mobile device. For instructions on how to use this service call or visit one of our locations.

If an item is lost or returned in damaged condition, you will be responsible for the replacement cost of the item.

If the book or item you want is not available to borrow or you would like the item delivered to another location for pick-up, you can place a hold request on it. Holds may be placed using several options:

  1. Search the catalogue on the library website.
  2. Contact any Colchester-East Hants Public Library branch.

When you have found an item you would like to request using the catalogue:

  1. Click the PLACE A HOLD button beside the item.
  2. Enter your library card number (barcode) and your PIN to log in to your account.
  3. Choose a pick-up location.
  4. Click SUBMIT REQUEST.

When your requested item arrives at the pick-up location, you will receive a notification by phone or email depending on what preference you have set in your account. The item will be held at the pick-up location for seven days.

Did you know that you can suspend and activate your holds online?

This can be especially useful for individuals who organize book clubs or simply want to put holds on items they don’t require right away. To manage your holds and have them delivered at a later time, please do the following after you have logged into your account.

Once you have placed items on hold, click on:

  • YOUR ACCOUNT (top right-hand corner of the page)
  • Then click HOLDS

To manage when holds will be fulfilled:

  • Select a hold
  • Click MODIFY SELECTED HOLDS
  • Choose a timeframe from the options provided

If you want to activate a suspended hold before your selected timeframe expires:

  • Simply click REMOVE MY SUSPENSION DATES from the drop-down menu

Most items that you borrow can be renewed twice, as long as there are sufficient copies available.

Each renewal extends the due date by the same length of time as you originally borrowed it for, e.g. an additional 21 days for most books. The renewal period starts on the day you renew an item, not the original date the item was due.

There are several ways to renew: in person at the library, by telephoning any Colchester-East Hants Public Library location, using the library catalogue.

To renew using the library catalogue, sign in to your account and view your items checked out. Select the box next to each item you want to renew and click the Renew Selected Items button.

Most borrowed items may be renewed twice. The new due date will be based on the date you renew the item.

You cannot renew an item if another customer has placed a hold on it, or if the item has already been renewed twice.

Borrowed items may be returned to any Colchester-East Hants Public Library location. You may return your items in person during library hours, or drop them in the outside book drop.

Outside book drops are available at every Colchester-East Hants Public Library location, and can be used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
